Put a warning in place about a film portraying rape or sexual violence before it is shown.

The Issue

In the last recent decade or so, films and tv shows have used graphic rape, sexual violence and multiple domestically violent scenes and quoted them as "necessary" - it is a common plot that consists of the following; woman is vulnerable, said woman is then raped/beaten/sexually abused, the woman endures this, then suddenly gets 'stronger' or 'better' after it by becoming vengeful, a soldier etc.

This is an inappropriate image of how a woman reacts to such a horrific thing as rape, and it is unnecessary. People do not need to see rape in a film in order to enjoy it.

However, not only this but any film that includes any scenes of this nature is not required to implement a warning beforehand. Take a look at I Spit On Your Grave for example, nowhere in the description or ratings does it suggest rape. In fact the description on Netflix simply states; "woman finds herself in a difficult situation during a house invasion, in which she gets revenge". Or Red Sparrow or the most recent Nightingale film out in 2019, which featured a brutal gang rape scene in which many people walked out.

All it takes is a 2 second warning so that rape victims or friends and family of rape victims can enjoy films without being subject to scenes like this - at least with a warning victims can choose what is safe to watch.

I know many people who attempt to Google if a film has any such scenes before watching however the answers are not often there.
