COIMBATORE: The parents of a plus-two student who hanged herself in Coimbatore on Thursday alleged that their daughter faced sexual harassment from a teacher leading her to resort to the extreme step.

The deceased has been identified as Pon Tharani,17, Coimbatore. Pon Tharani studied till class 11 at a private school in RS Puram. However, a few months ago, she informed her parents that she was not willing to continue in that school. Following this, she was shifted to a school where she was doing class 12.

Meanwhile, when there was no one in the house, Pon Tharani locked the door from inside and hanged herself from the ceiling fan in Thursday night.

Following this, her parents lodged a complaint with the Ukkadam police. in their complaint her parents said that their daughter had left a suicide note naming a school teacher and naming two others sexually harassed her.

A teacher named Mithun Chakravarthy has been taken into custody after the protest made by the parents of the victim. He was booked under protection of children from sexual offenses act and also under the Indian Penal Code section 306 (Abetment of suicide).

Section 163 of the act provides for the form of the sentence of death as; "In awarding a sentence of death, a court-martial shall, in its discretion, direct that the offender shall suffer death by being hanged by the neck until he be dead or shall suffer death by being shot to death."

TamilNadu Government should really consider to put Mithun Chakravarthy under Indian Penal Code section 163. Not only Mithun Chakravarthy who all are responsible for the harrasement of innocent women and girls should given death sentence.

This is the Justice they need and it has to be delivered before its too late.
