Concerned residents started this petition to Government of New Brunswick and

Route 126 is a provincial 2 lane highway in New Brunswick that runs approximately 120 kilometres from Miramichi to Moncton. It sees a volume of about 2000 to 2500 vehicles daily with a fifth to a quarter being large transports and heavy truckloads. The two lanes, the abundant wildlife, the proximity of wet lands, the intensive traffic make it one of the most dangerous highway in the province.

Everyone living along the 126 and in the communities it serves knows of a fatal accident where speeding or drinking were not involved. The number of accidents and death along this road can not remain unaddressed. The 126 is the country road that we use in our everyday life, the road that brings our children to school and connects us.

Hence I ask you show your support and sign this petition to MAKE ROUTE 126 SAFER, to allow its communities access to a safer infrastructure and reduce the injury and death toll that has already touched too many of us.

 Some solutions could be to

  • Increase plough rotation and salting in winter
  • Double the road
  • Enlarge hard shoulder
  • Provide additional lighting along the road and at intersections
  • Improve drainage of the ditches and paving
  • Develop initiatives to deviate all non local transport onto highway 11

Consult and Act promptly. Our families depend on it.

thank you
