Why this petition matters

Started by Frack Free Namibia

Fracking and drilling for oil, which can impact sensitive ecosystems, such as the vast Okavango basin can be harmful not only to local communities, but also to a wide range of flora and fauna. According to the union of concerned scientists, the negative impacts of hydraulic fracturing often include poor air and water quality, community health problems, safety concerns, long-term economic issues and environmental crises like habitat loss. This is of particular concern for vast and sensitive ecosystems, such as the Okavango basin in Southern Africa, which supports an incredible number of wildlife varieties and populations especially the Bushman.

We must work together to convince the relevant governments not to concede to allowing fracking and oil drilling by companies seeking lucrative oil revenues. Instead, governments across the globe should endeavor to work with companies to find alternative cleaner sources of energy. As citizens and guardians of our globe, it is our collective responsibility to come together in solidarity and protect our already threatened wildlife and sensitive ecosystems from the potentially harmful impact of fracking and oil drilling.
