Please reconsider the restructuring of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation
Please reconsider the restructuring of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation
The Issue
Hi,
This petition has been raised against restructuring of Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation, especially the proposal for a separate Kazhakkoottam Municipality -
Kazhakkoottam was recently added to the corporation.
Kazhakkoottam area has grown leaps and bounds in the past few years after merging with Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. The new proposal will backfire the current rate of growth.
There is a great chance that investors would be reluctant in more investments in the area. This will hinder the future development of the state as a whole.
Kazhakkoottam would be deprived of the Central Funded projects aimed at Metropolitan areas.
Metro Status for Thiruvananthapuram
Kazhakkoottam and other areas were added to the Corporation with the prime aim to develop Thiruvananthapuram as a Metro in near future. The minimum criteria for this (10 L population) cannot be met with the new proposal. Again, this would mean Thiruvananthapuram will not be eligible for many Central Government funds for the its future projects
Economic nerve center - Revenue for the Corporation - Burden on State
80% of the State's Software industry is in the Kazhakkoottam area and hence a major source of revenue. Additionally most of the real estate investments in the City are around Kazhakkoottam.
Removing Kazhakkoottam will cause in loss of income for the Corporation.
Above all, since projects in Municipality limits will only receive limited funding from Central Govt., the development of the region will cause overburden to the State Govt.'s budget.
Real Estate Prices -
Conversion to Municipality will see a fall in real estate prices. This would mean loss for the investors who have already invested in the region. Also, this would repel future investors.
Landmarks -
The landmarks in Thiruvananthapuram like CET, Thiruvananthapuram international stadium, Technopark (all phases), Technocity, KINFRA, VSSC, Telecom City will be out of Corporation limits with the new proposal.
Everywhere else in India, City limits are expanded so that space constraints are not hindrance to development, and also makes sure more facilities area available for the remote areas. This new proposal is completely illogical and stepping back by atleast 10 yrs.
In Conclusion, the new proposal is not going to benefit anybody (be it Kazhakkoottam or the City/State as a whole).
Through this petition we,as citizens are declaring our objection in the new proposal.
Thanks
