Gulbarga (Urdu) (city of flowers and gardens) was renamed Kalaburagi (Kannada) (Kala-Art/Bura-Bad, Strong Stone Fort) effective 1 November 2014 a decision disliked by the citizens of Gulbarga.

Changing the name of the district has altered the character of the place and demean the beautiful name given to the district in Persian language meaning “a city of gardens and flowers”.

The name Kalaburagi, literally meaning “a city of heap of stones” would take away the beauty attached to the name of the district.

Though some of you might believe it or not, but in some or the other way this change in name is affecting the economy, culture and a lot more of the city as the city is known by Gulbarga to all, an Educational Hub.

I have put this petition on Change.org to help reach a considerate mark(as in number of signatures on this petition) so that this petition reaches to our respected CM and he re-thinks about this issue and hope that he plans to resolve this as soon as possible.
I have also put this issue here as I live in Gulbarga and I've been living here since my birth and it's been almost years by now and I love my city and it's actual name i.e., Gulbarga, for what it is known to the world since years.

I request all citizens to sign this petition so that our beautiful city gets back its old name 'Gulbarga'.
