Legalise the use of pepper spray for self-defence in Ireland

Legalise the use of pepper spray for self-defence in Ireland
The Issue
Under current law, the use or possession of pepper spray in Ireland is completely prohibited. This is a petition to legalise the use of pepper spray in Ireland for self-defence purposes.
Pepper spray is a nonlethal weapon that acts by causing extreme pain and possible temporary blindness. Symptoms usually subside within 15-30 minutes. This would give enough time for a victim to escape from an attacker without causing serious harm.
The only form of personal protection currently available are personal alarms. This is not enough protection for the world we live in today. This petition urges the Government of Ireland to legalise the use of pepper spray in Ireland for self-defence purposes.
