Why this petition matters

Started by Nirmit Agarwal

The Godavari river is the second-largest and sacred river of India. It is a 1,465km long river flowing through Maharashtra, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. This river water of the low islands are heavily used for growing a variety of crops, notably tobacco, it is a source of hydroelectric power and potable water, and also it provides cheap transport sometimes. The Godavari river also helps form a Konaseema which is a fertile rice granary where tobacco, sugarcane, and coconut plantations are in abundance.Other than this river Godavari serves a very important cultural significance. Although there is a negative influence on this river because of human activities. Due to several human activities, the river is suffering through tons of pollution causing the ecosystem of the river to be disturbed. Several industries have been set up in Maharashtra, across the river which release industrial effluents and sewage in water and due to excessive harvesting marine species are lost and excessive use of fertilisers on this farmland is leading to cases of eutrophication. However, it is high time for the government to take an action against the people polluting and harming this river and we urge people to take small steps towards protecting the beautiful Godavari river to protect the future of our country. Please sign this petition to help the Godavari river.
