Hotels refunding to the consumers for all the booking during the period of the lockdown
The Issue
I had made bookings for my family through Make My Trip with Hotel Summit Sobralia Resorts and Spa Namchi in the month of January 2020t for the month of April 2020. Seeing the spread of coronavirus we shifted our dates of travel to May 27th with the hotel. The change was made by us on the 22nd of March 2020. We are still in lockdown with no flights to destination and also In April 2020 Sikkim closed its border till October 2020 for tourists. Our booking is practically non existent in these times of uncertainty.
I would like to highlight here that the Sikkim Tourism had instructed all the hotels of the state to not take any booking from 18th march 2020 onwards. Still hotel let us revise our booking without informing about their indefinite closure. SUMMIT SOBRALIA clearly broke the government rule. Also the revised zero refund policy of hotel was sent to us after our booking was revised. After repeated attempts to Make My Trip and Summit Sobralia no refund had been made to us.
I would like to question WHY THE NON REFUND?? To Hotel SUMMIT SOBRALIA and all Indian Hotels who are not refunding the customers. Also majority of the five star hotels are offering refund or credit to their customers. Are you just a five star for namesake???
When all airlines are giving refund or crediting for another year why not you. Why are all your phones switched off or un answered? why are you not listening to the consumers?? Except for paying your employees that to after a pay cut you are saving in terms of maintenance, electricity, water, food and miscellaneous other things. Everybody is being considerate why are you not considering???
Government of India has been blind to this and I would like the authorities like Consumer Affairs Ministry, Finance Ministries and Tourism to look into the matter immediately.
While dealing with my problem I realized many across the country will be having the same problem.
I am proposing the government to take some steps immediately first being return of the gst amount to the hotels for all the booking for the lockdown period. Next making it mandatory that hotel which are three star and above refund full amount to the consumers.
To all consumers sailing in the my boat: We are in this together. WE WILL GET OUR REFUND!!
