Dr M. Balamuralikrishna is a phenomenon in Carnatic Music. A child prodigy, he has been performing, believe me, for 8 decades, with more than 25,000 stage performances to his credit - and that is perhaps a feat no one has probably achieved in the whole world. A multi talented and pristine musician, Dr Balamuralikrishna is already the recipient of Padma Vibhushan award from Govt. of India and Chevalier Award from French Govt. He is composer par excellence too. Also has acted in films and has sung innumerable songs in films in  all the South Indian languages. In our country, Bharat Ratna award has so far been conferred only on one musician from South India and that is Dr M.S.Subbulakshmi. From North India, musicians such as Ravishankar, Bismillah Khan, Lata Mangeshkar and Bhimsen Joshi have been conferred the coveted award. If there is any one musician who deserves best Bharat Ratna in today's scenario, it is Dr Balamuralikrishna. He has been a part of several productions eulogising national fervour and patriotism from Mile Sur mera tumhara to Vande Mataram to Jana Gana Mana.  Govt. of India must recognise him by conferring the highest civilian honour.
