Stop ban on importation of accident cars to Ghana.

Stop ban on importation of accident cars to Ghana.
The Issue
Government is set to put a total ban on the importation of accident vehicles and imported vehicles older than 10years.
Whilst the effort to ban cars older than 10 years from the streets of the country is commendable, the associated ban on importation of accident vehicles is detrimental to say the least.
Aside from the fact that this ban will lead to an increase in unemployment of about 30% and a loss of revenue of at least GHc802 million, it is unrealistic to expect Ghanaians to purchase newly manufactured cars or “clean” cars.
A recent survey showed that more than 90% of Ghanaians cannot afford “clean” cars which sometimes come at a cost of over 200% the price that would have been paid for an accident vehicle.
The revenue that will be lost as a result of this bill is money that supports healthcare and education for the average Ghanaian and there is currently no set plan by government to recover this money.
Small to medium Ghanaian businesses such as welders, sprayers, tow trucks, mechanics and car dealers who make an income from the business are set to fold up business and be left unemployed and unable to support themselves and their households.
Government is only killing the car dealership industry to provide incentives for automotive manufacturers and assemblers registered under the Ghana Manufacturing Development Program namely Toyota, Suzuki, Volkswagen, Nissan and Sinotruk at the expense of Ghanaian citizens and for the benefit of the already rich.
THIS PETITION IS CALLING FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO STOP THE BAN ON THE IMPORTATION OF ACCIDENT CARS. Sign this petition to help save Ghanaian businesses and prevent unemployment and severe economic hardship in Ghana. THANK YOU.
