Gov't of Dominica: Hold an emergency meeting of parliament on child sexual abuse.

Gov't of Dominica: Hold an emergency meeting of parliament on child sexual abuse.
The Issue
Child sexual abuse in Dominica has long been declared a national crisis. Yet, unlike national disasters or sudden increases in crime, this stain on our society has been allowed to spread rapidly, threatening the safety of all children in Dominica.
In spite of significant activism to encourage the government of Dominica to amend existing legislation and invest additional resources to help combat the threat to our children, there has not been any concrete change in policy to address this national emergency.
Recent allegations that a prominent businessman and cabinet minister have committed sexual assault of a minor is a frightful reminder of the breadth and depth of this tragedy and the many lives impacted by this issue. It also reiterates a long-standing rumour that government inaction is due to their involvement in the very criminal act that they were sworn in to stamp away!
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has promised to act decisively in reaction to this most recent allegation of criminal activity against children from ministers of his cabinet. Promises are no longer enough. An emergency sitting of parliament is needed immediately to review the amendments to this act, and to hear our elected leaders' proposals on the best course of action to protect our children in the short, medium, and long term.
Join WE ARE DOMINICA in calling for an emergency sitting of parliament in the month of March to discuss the issue of child sexual abuse. Our leaders must take action at the highest level of governance and allow the populace to listen in on their proposals to protect our children.
Please sign your name and demand that our leaders take action on child sexual abuse in Dominica, NOW!
