STOP THE SOYONA LITHIUM MINE ON LAC SIMARD - LONG POINT FIRST NATION

STOP THE SOYONA LITHIUM MINE ON LAC SIMARD - LONG POINT FIRST NATION
Why this petition matters
We stand to defend against the lithium mining project called Tamsim Lithium, which is to be intended north of Lac Simard, exploited by Sayona Mining Limited (based in Australia).
The community of Long Point First Nation sits along the bank of this lake, after being relocated for the Anglers Quebec Hydro Damn, with zero benefit to the community. Once again, we are in a battle for our home, lives, livelihood, and survival. How many times will we have to be uprooted for the economic greed of Canada.
Zero meaningful consultation has been done.
Zero consent has been given.
Zero feasibility studies or environmental studies have been made.
However, drilling is to begin in May of 2021 (this month).
As rightful stewards of these lands, Free prior and informed consent must be given before projects such as these can start.
This mining project will cause irreversible damage not only to a lake key to our survival, but this could have effects for people and communities all along the Kitchisippi (Ottawa River).
Damage such as;
• Bulldozing and deforestation and destruction of our ecosystems.
• The secretion and waste of these mines, will destroy all vegetation, soil and water sources surrounding.
• Contamination into the Kitchisippi.
• Depletion of the lake.
• Destruction of the natural home of numerous species and peoples living in that area.
• Devaluation of the agricultural regional system.
• Relocation of the community, once again for economic benefit, that does not benefit the community.
Lithium mining requires a huge amount of water and energy. The natural resources used by local hunters and inhabitants will be used for the mine. Which begs the question... What will be left? As Anishinabeg, we look to the 7 generations behind us, and 7 generations ahead of us before making any decisions. As rightful and ancestral stewards of these lands, we seek to leave a better legacy for our next 7 generations. At the current rate of over deforestation, over hunting and fishing, over mining, and overall over extraction of resources on Anishinabeg Aki (Algonquin Territory), the legacy we currently leave is one of destruction and devastation.
As ancestral care takers of these lands since time immemorial;
We stand to protect the natural home of numerous plant and animal species needed to survive on this territory.
We stand for the preservation of our agriculture, land, and water.
We stand survival that is borrowed from our children and is inherited from our ancestor.
We stand to protect the natural home of numerous plants and animals species.
We stand for the preservation of our agricultural and land that is inherited from our ancestors.
PLEASE, sign our petition and join us to protect nature, preserve the health and standard of living for our people!
Helps us so the Quebec Government hears our Voice!
NO TO THE MINE
YES TO LIFE!
UNITED TO PROTECT THE LAND!
