I have started this petition in order to push the Canadian government to put in place legislation that it must be MANDATORY for all businesses and companies who use any form of communication, whether it may be in-person or over the phone, to have 1 person always on shift who is trained and knows how to communicate using sign language and can effectively communicate. we have neglected the deaf/hard off hearing community for far too long. Not all deaf/hard of hearing individuals have the access or the privilege to own a hearing aid, not all deaf/ hard of hearing individuals want one, and not all deaf/hard of hearing individuals have someone they can rely on for receiving  information and communicating. I've put this petition together so that we can convince the Canadian government to have this legislation in place. Communication is a human right, and is a MUST for all, so why do exclude deaf/hard of hearing individual? I've seen far too many videos on the internet of deaf individuals sharing their experiences with people who work at a job involving communication, where they state that they have to use a pen and piece of paper to share what they want to say. not only is that time consuming but it shouldn't have come to a point where the ONLY way you can express your thoughts and needs to a worker is but using a pen and paper. THIS PETITION DOESN'T TARGET SMALL BUSINESS considering that they most likely won't have the funds to provide a translator. MAKE SIGN LANGUAGE AS MANDATORY AS FRENCH!
