Harsher Puppy Mill Laws

In Quebec, the animal rights situation is not ideal. In fact, according to Humane Society International, Quebec is the puppy mill capital of Canada. They mention that despite the recent advancements made by the government, our legislation is by far the worst among all provinces and requires major improvement.
The Montreal Gazette comments on this new advancement named Bill 54. This newly adopted bill is a step forward in our fight against animal cruelty, but isn’t enough to end this cruelty altogether. Many flaws can be brought up concerning this bill, namely the fact that there is a lack of inspectors, the majority of whom have knowledge restricting to certain species only, and it exempts generally accepted practices such as mutilation or confinement of an animal to a tiny pen. Our petition is going to be focusing on puppy mills.
In order to implement more severe legislation regarding puppy mills, we call upon the Government of Quebec. Now is the time to make a change that is long overdue. We encourage you all to sign this petition in order to pressure the government into making more restrictive laws, for the well being of all those dogs forced to spend their lives in inhumane conditions.
For those who would like to read more about what exactly a puppy mill is, we suggest you go read about it on the American and Canadian sites of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals: SPCA and ASPCA.
Thank you for your collaboration, let's make a difference!
