Babelegi industrial site is based North of Pretoria in Hammanskraal, a product of the Bantu Investment corporation (BIC)Act 34 of 1959, this project formed part of the apartheid system for racial segregation. Through out the 80's till early 90's this industrial park employed over 20 000 people from in and around Hammanskraal, In 1990 the new ANC government scraped the industrial decentralization program and unplugged financial subsidies that helped the Industrial Park this chased off Investors and companies started leaving the industrial park which left over 15 000 employees without jobs. 

With unemployment on the rise a socio-economic decline of Hammanskraal is directly  connected to the fall of Babelegi industrial park, one of the company's that benefited from Babelegi and was directly  affected by this event is the Carousel Casino which used to be the largest gambling space in the Southern hemisphere,The Carousel Hotel has of late has collapsed due to loss of business. Social ills like alcohol/drug abuse and crime are some of the challenges unemployment brought to the surrounding communities wich are worsening on a daily basis.

Government, the department of Trade Industry and Competition and all relevant stake holders must come to the party and help bring back to life what used to be one of the biggest GDP contributer's in South Africa, Investing in Babelegi industrial park will surely yield great results for both people and country.
