Make prescriptions in England FREE

The Issue

My name is Shoshana & I was diagnosed with depression 18 months ago.

I currently have £18 in my account. If I purchase my prescription of antidepressants I will have £9 left in my account, half what I have now. Do I delay buying them until I have a bit more money?

This was a constant dilemma of mine through university too, and should not be a question you have to ask yourself.

Prescriptions in England cost £9 per item. There exists a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) plan but it doesn’t reflect a significant saving, and requires a large upfront payment.

Prescriptions are free in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, so why not include England?

In regards to mental health conditions:

1 in 4 people are affected by mental health disorders.

Of that 14-25 are the largest age demographic affected.

Poverty, a factor known to largely increase your risk to mental health disorders, is highest among those aged 14-25.

Our health is a human right not a commodity or privilege.
