Mental health issues, depression, suicidal thoughts, body image issues, eating disorders and bullying are becoming a very real and growing threat to the youth of today. Nobody is exempt regardless of age, sex, religion, background or ethnicity. It terrifies me how many young people are so desperate that they are ending their own life, sometimes before they even reach their teens. Surely in today’s society where kids are being taught how to access the world via technology it is imperative and vital that they are also taught from a young age the repercussions of bullying and how to recognise, deal with and understand mental health issues. Adding this lesson to the curriculum, even once a fortnight, would teach coping strategies and empathy in the formative years and could be extended to include health care professionals, victims and counsellors/ psychologists etc. I’m sure there are very few people who haven’t personally, or through friends, seen the fallout it can cause. Surely if this even stopped one more wasted life it is worth it but it could change generations of children from suffering. Thank you for taking time to read this.
