We urgently call on the UK government to create and fund programs that provide practical job experience for all university graduates. The current job market demands experience that fresh graduates often lack, leaving many talented young people unable to secure meaningful employment. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical job skills, addressing the high unemployment rate among young graduates and strengthening our national workforce.

Right now, it’s a vicious cycle: big companies want experienced specialists, and programs aimed at student employment (like grad crack) are overcrowded, with only one out of 100 graduates securing a job. Instead of paying these graduates unemployment benefits, the government should provide them with jobs for the duration of their practical training and pay them benefits for their work, while companies cover the rest of the salary through tax incentives. Let’s spend less money on wars and invest more in our youth!

Many graduates, including my own son who has a Computer Science degree, face immense challenges in securing employment due to a lack of experience.
