We want the sentence for rape / sexual assault to be longer as the minimum is only 5 years. There are so many cases of sexual assault and rape still not reported for various reasons, but some of the ones that are reported are either dismissed or given the minimum sentence of 5 years. Only 4 out of 1000 rapists will actually be incarcerated , out of 1000 reports only 46 reports lead to arrest. We feel that a lot of people don't get the justice they deserve, with some people getting a sentence of only 5 years. Murder gets life whereas rape is only 5 years, both crimes are ruining peoples lives so why should the Both be treated differently? Why are the sentencing guidelines so different? Either way you're ruining the victims life and possible those around.
