The Issue

As we all know Death penalty take lives of many people and it is clearly against the Human Rights, particularly the right to life. For years, Philippines put many people to death, specifically to those who committed the so-called heinous crimes. Due to pressure of the Catholic Church, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo abolished the death penalty year 2006. As President Rodrigo Duterte takes the seat as the current president, many Filipinos fear the return of the Capital Punishment or the so-called Death Penalty. Since coming to power in 2016 the President issued the police a shoot-to-kill order to help him in his drug war. Last August the preisdent once again reintroduce the death penalty as part of his war against drug. Data shows more than 8,000 people have been killed in the anti-drug operations since the shoot-to-kill order have been imposed. The nation's commission estimates a toll as high as 27,000. Many killings are reported since President Duterte takes power and as the anti-drug operation started, perhaps this is one of the reasons why many people fight to stop the return of Death Penalty. WE ARE NOT A NATION OF KILLERS. NO TO DEATH PENALTY. UPHOLD THE RIGHT TO LIFE.
