We are appalled by the government’s decision to ban outdoor tennis in England as part of the new national restrictions that come into force on Thursday.

Outdoor tennis is a naturally socially distanced activity that is safe to play and therapeutic.

It is crucial to retain as many outdoor activities as possible to combat mental health issues during the lockdown, so the government’s decision to curtail this therapeutic activity seems wilfully misguided.

Please ensure outdoor tennis is reinstated as a safe, socially distanced sport during lockdown.
