A Plea To End The Killings Of Human Rights Advocates

A Plea To End The Killings Of Human Rights Advocates
Why this petition matters
This petition means that human rights are important means of protection for all of us, especially those who may face abuse, neglect, and isolation. Human rights advocates are what we called human rights defenders or human rights activists. They are the individuals who advocate for the protection of their own rights, as well as for the rights of others. This is often done through joining together with other like-minded people as part of a movement to 'make a difference'. They can be politicians, artists, journalists, environmentalists, whistle-blowers, trade unionists, lawyers, teachers, housing campaigners, or just individuals acting alone. They also seek to update extant policies to ensure equal enjoyment of possibilities by all.
In the Philippines, the fact remains that there are rampant human rights violations around the country. Way back year 2019, killings by the police and unknown armed individuals remained uncontrolled as the government’s violent “war on drugs” reached its fourth year. Human rights defenders critical of the government were increasingly harassed and vilified. The prevailing climate of impunity fueled an increase in the killings of activists for their political views. State security forces and government-backed paramilitaries continue to harass, threaten, arbitrarily arrest, and in some instances attack and kill political activists, environmentalists, community leaders, and journalists. Moreover, killings of activists affiliated with the political left surged following a complete breakdown of peace talks between the government and the New People’s Army; many were victims of “red-tagging,” or accused of being communists.
We have witnessed a long history of domestic inter-agency task forces and fact-finding commissions promising to act without fear or favor. But we repeatedly have been frustrated and even enraged by the fruitlessness and ineffectiveness of these so-called domestic accountability measures. Rather than help, these government bodies have even contributed to the infrastructure of impunity and miscarriage of justice against the victims of human rights violations.
Most of the advocates continued to fight for their rights even they experience harassment and even death by these abusive people with high positions in society. They believe in the rights of every people as a human being and their rights to speak and to act when something goes wrong in the country. Taking someone's privilege to live and commit the freedom is an impact to an individual killing and not providing their own independence. It is also defined as causing death and exhaustion. Some of the victims died while speaking for themselves and fighting for their rights. Taking the lives of the innocent individuals who spokes out and stands for the sake of human rights advocacy, many hopes, and injustices of those in need were drown out and covered behind the shadows and neglect to commit their justice.
To help achieve the objectives given, our team aims to create a change.org petition and a Facebook page. Aside from that, we will also create infographics, websites, and blogs to disseminate information within our society about the cruelty and injustice killings that occurred to our fellow Filipino citizens that will help stand against the inability of the government to ensure transparency for human rights violations and persistent impunity. Our initiative aims to put an end to the ignorance of people with this form of issue that we are currently seriously facing. In the investigation into these human rights abuses, our team seeks accountability for killings and genuine transparency. Here are the website and blog to give you more info
