The Issue

One of the issues today is the eruption of Taal Volcano leaving a lot of distress to Batangueños. After being affected by the disastrous calamity, the people of Batangas find it difficult of starting over again because the animals which serve as their primary source of livelihood is also greatly affected by the said phenomenon.

Like humas, those pets and animals badly need our help. After today's assessment the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) Disaster Team together with IFAW, confirmed that pet dogs, cows and other livestock animals have been left at the site when people evacuated during the eruption. The animals left behind are shouting for help and care. They also feel tired, thirsty and hungry.

Dead bodies of these animals are scattered on the area, some are still alive but suffers the pain of breathing sulfur in the air, while some grows sicker and weaker by the hour.

We are still clueless on what gonna happen next. Volcano has been downgraded to Alert Level 3 but there are still earthquakes and aftershocks. There are areas that are still considered lockdown; Agoncillo, Laurel, and Taal Volcano Island.

Aside from that, 10% only of 300 horses that were used for tourism were saved. Batangueños, known for their bravery bows down to the authority who limits them of saving their animals like these horses due to the threat to their life. As how much they wanted to save their pets, the volcano hinders them of doing it so.

Likewise the unrescued animals who fights for their living amidst the unhealthy environment, people are also forced of sacrificing their livelihood after the eruption of Taal. However, these humans can rely on many things - the relief goods, among the government and even to those with good hearts. But how about to the poor animals, are the concerned citizens enough to help them survive in this situation.

As we give for us of aiding the people in facing this battle, I also call to action to the responsible Filipinos to also provide support for the fast recovery of these livings - the horses, digs, chickens, cows and carabaos - the animals who portray huge roles in the living of every Batangueño.
