Change the Stigma and Education of Hidden Illnesses & Invisible Disabilities

The Issue

Although many people are trying to change their attitudes and knowledge of what someone with an invisible illness / hidden disability. However, it seems there is not enough change and learning happening and it is not being taken as seriously.

Prejudice towards those in our communities is detrimental, causing even more stress, anxiety and issues for the person/persons' lives that are already silently suffering.

Everybody matters no matter how different they are to you, just because you cannot see something doesn’t mean it isn’t there. But as we all know ignorance is blind, intentional or not.

In 2018 the Government stats said that there are around 13.3 million people with disabilities living in the UK.

“As these statistics are quite high, so are the chances that you employ someone who has a disability. However, it’s also likely that you might not be aware of it. 96% of illnesses are invisible” – High Speed Training.co.uk

Not only am I making this post because I want others with hidden disabilities and invisible illness to have an easier and safer life. For example; not have to worry about getting verbal abuse from a stranger for using a disabled toilet or disabled badge spot (even when they have a badge) just because they don’t fit the idea the stranger has for “looking disabled”. I don’t want others to think they have to explain themselves, defend themselves and worry about the next time they’re going to get questioned.

Mostly because myself, a 21-year-old young woman, has had this personally happen to me for the last few years. Mostly coming from Grown adults. I constantly am too worried to do something I am entitled to incase someone wants to become confrontational towards me again or may judge me.

It's ridiculous, and I don't want anyone else to feel less because they are in the same boat too.

I hope you will join me to try spread this message by signing and sharing this petition, sign it for yourself, for your family, friends, a loved one, or just for those you may not know but wat to support.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. <3
