18 year old girl gets 15 years for non-violent drug offense

The Issue

At 18 years old, Joni Grizzard was charged with a non-violent drug offense and sentenced to 40 years with all but 15 years suspended, leaving her to have to spend a decade and a half of her life in a state penitentiary.  On April 3rd, 2016, she will be 30 years old, having done a decade of her sentence already serving more time on average than most murderers, robbers, rapist, child molesters, etc. within the state of Virginia.

Through out her incarceration she has made the best of her situation by taking advantage of every opportunity afforded to her.  She has completed several treatment programs, vocational classes, college degree, and more.  She has her Associates Degree, and is currently working on her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.  She is also attending an entrepreneurship class through the Darden Business School with UVA.  Taking her education serious, she holds a 4.0 GPA.  Instead of wasting tax payers dollars and wasting more of her life away, an early release is the best option in this situation for her and others who have come into the state system at a young age and done well within those barriers where the pressure to do wrong and fit in to an unhealthy lifestyle is around every corner.

Enough of Joni's life has been taken from her.  Please help us get Joni and others home that deserve a second chance.
