Earlier this year United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner issues a statement of fact that "prolonged solitary confinement, the precise type often used in the United States amounts to psychological torture!" During the Covid-19 pandemic , correctional facilities have adopted this confinement as a "safety" choice for inmates that have not committed any sort of infraction or rule violation, which is when these measures are typically used to further punish. The inmates are in their cells for 23 hours a day only coming out for one hour. The only danger to the inmates are the staff members that are allowed to come and go. Why hasn't a more HUMANE plan been put in place for our loved ones who are in fact still HUMAN BEINGS? It is UNFAIR, that based on events outside of any of our power , we have had to adopt new ways of living to protect ourselves and others, I get that, but for people who don't even have contact with the outside world except for the few that work in the facility, their protection shouldn't be confinement to a cell for this said amount of time. It has been proven to mentally destroy humans and we see the same affect with caged animals - why is there not a BETTER plan in place to protect our loved ones and still allow the ability to keep them safe without destroying them further. I am in this fight for the sake of my 23 year old son and all those voices who aren't being heard - please sign this petition to join the fight to force the SYSTEM to revise this CRUEL DANGEROUS and INHUMANE treatment. There is a better way to treat human beings and in the America I live in I expect better. We have the ability and the power to change ANYTHING if we pull together and UNITE - lets show the inmates that they are still loved and fight this fight for their sake! All of us , I'm convinced , have loved someone that may have ended up in trouble for some of their life's choices but it doesn't make them any less HUMAN -
