Dear neighbors,
Here's a quick update on our collective efforts:
1. We have put the issue of blasting front and center in the upcoming election for Florida CFO (Chief Financial Officer). Jimmy Patronis (R) was selected by Gov. Rick Scott to finish the current term left vacant by Jeff Atwater. Mr. Patronis has announced his candidacy for the office, he is going to be opposed by Senator Jeremy Ring (D). We have reached out to both candidates via Twitter and asked for their position on blasting near residential areas and for a pledge not to accept campaign contributions from the mining industry. On Nov 8th, Senator Ring contacted us by phone and expressed his concern for the affected residents. Later that day he tweeted the following "When I'm CFO levels around neighborhoods will be decreased and damages to your property will be fixed!" We have yet to hear from current CFO Patronis. Senator Ring has committed to come to the affected areas and meet with impacted residents.
2. On November 3rd, a resident received an email in response to complaints about the blasting, the email stated "Thank you for your continued involvement in our Community. Please note that staff spoke to the State Fire Marshal’s Office and they confirmed that most of the issues are coming from the White Rock Quarries (WRQ) in northwest Miami-Dade County. At a recent meeting with the new CFO, Jimmy Patronis, he stated that the blasting is one of the biggest issues in Tallahassee right now, so all the complaints are being heard."
Working together we have started to make headway. In order to continue to make our case, we need additional information. If you want to share your story with an investigative reporter who is working on this issue, please let us know by emailing to nomoreblastingrivieraisles@yahoo.com. We heard from a resident whose dog has to be medicated with Xanax due to the blasting. If you are that resident, or you have heard similar stories, please email us as well. If you have surveillance videos with house shaking please send them to us: nomoreblastingrivieraisles@yahoo.com
Remember to share this petition with at least 3 people. If you want to see Senator Jeremey Ring's original Twitter post, visit our Facebook page @nomoreblasting where we also post the weekly blasting schedule every Monday.
