Dear neighbors, First, we want to let you know that Florida's Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater resigned his position on February 10th. He was the person in charge of overseeing mine related blasting statewide. Most of our efforts were aimed at getting Mr. Atwater to exercise his authority and provide a solution to the blasting problem. As of today, we are still feeling every blast, with even greater intensity than before. Since Mr. Atwater will not be finishing his term, a successor will be appointed by Gov. Rick Scott. This person will perform the CFO's duties until the mid-term elections in 2018. The CFO is a statewide elected position up for election every four years. TO DO LIST: 1. Elections for Miramar Commissioners will be held on March 14. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you vote. We need to increase voter participation if we want elected officials to pay attention to the issues that affect us like the blasting and the Lennar project. If you have not registered to vote, you can do it online. Go to: http://www.browardsoe.org/Register-to-Vote/How-to-Register 2. If you want to represent your community in the Blasting Citizen Advisory Committee that was recently approved by the City of Miramar, please fill out your application: http://www.miramarfl.gov/FormCenter/Advisory-Boards-9/Advisory-Board-Application-49 3. Inspect your house. Look for wall cracks, broken windows, pool leaks, uneven or broken tiles, etc. Talk to your neighbors and advise them to do the same. Document your damages. Also document how the blasting impacts you and your family psychologically. All of the damage data collected so far is focused on physical damage to our homes. We need to collect data on how the blasting is impacting veterans suffering from PTSD, infants and children with autism and other conditions, the elderly, those in our community who have lived through major earthquakes in other states/countries. Our homes cannot expressly state that the damage they are suffering comes directly from the blasting, however, our neighbors and family members can! 4. We received confirmation by three employees from the State Fire Marshal's office who are in charge of investigating the blasting that ALL the complaints are being recorded and addressed. Your complaints matter and they are the source of the increased attention to the blasting problem. Please keep sending your emails with damage description and pictures to the following emails (you can copy/paste this list): ruth.ivory@myfloridacfo.com, sfm@myfloridacfo.com, larry.pasko@myfloridacfo.com, casia.sinco@myfloridacfo.com, fossett.george@flsenate.gov, manny.diaz@myfloridahouse.gov, nomoreblastingrivieraisles@yahoo.com 5. If they are not doing their job, don't be afraid to call them out. Remember, YOUR VOTE IS YOUR VOICE. Follow this link to find your elected officials: https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials/ 7. Follow them on social media, post your reaction to the blasts and tag the elected officials. We know for a fact that the most effective way to interact with them is by calling their office, do so regularly and often! Thank you for your continuous support.
