Tolerance for climate activists and creation of national campaigns on plant-based food

Tolerance for climate activists and creation of national campaigns on plant-based food
Le problème
We are now facing an unprecedented global emergency because of the climate crisis. Warmer temperatures are causing an increase in extreme weather, floods, storms and droughts, as well as rising sea levels, heat stress in our oceans and degradation of our soils. Many extreme weather events are having very devastating impacts on agriculture and destroying homes, costing taxpayers billions of dollars and leaving millions of people in need of humanitarian aid. Moreover, around the world, biodiversity is being annihilated at a terrifying rate. Population sizes of thousands of species of mammals, birds, fish and reptiles have fallen by 60% since the 1970s. We are also losing crop-pollinating insects and soil-rejuvenating earthworms. Species are going extinct 100 to 1,000 times faster than they would be doing naturally. We have to face this now and we have tools to deal with it.
A scientific study shows that because of the disastrous consequences of animal husbandry, eating meat generates twice as much greenhouse gas as eating vegan. (Link to the study: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs10584-014-1169-1 )
Another study shows that animal products with the least impact (meat and local dairy products) still have a greater impact than alternative plant-based products. (Link to the study: https://science.sciencemag.org/content/360/6392/987 )
In addition, a study also shows that eating plant-based (even non-local) food has more environmental benefits than eating local, which makes sense given that livestock farming creates a lot of greenhouse gas emissions. (Link to the study: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/es702969f )
In light of the current climate crisis, we call on the governments of all countries to do the following:
- Tolerance for the activities of all climate activists;
- Creation by the states of campaigns to raise awareness on plant-based food to reduce our impact on the climate and reduce the number of animals killed for simple eating habits.
