End Mandatory Online Alpha Sigma Phi Society trainings

End Mandatory Online Alpha Sigma Phi Society trainings
The Issue
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was apparent that the creation and use of a virtual leadership conference was needed to replace in-person events. As we approach 2 full years of the pandemic we have a better understanding of the virus itself, how it spreads, and the safety precautions that can be taken to limit exposure. We believe that the virtual training societies only hold a small fraction of the value that the previous in-person events do and that they are not an effective use of fraternity time and resources, nationally and locally. We write this petition with one goal in mind, to end Alpha Sigma Phi’s mandatory virtual officer training societies. These societies add significantly more stress and concern into the lives of those members of chapter prudential boards.
Alpha Sigma Phi’s purpose is to Better the Man, through the creation and perpetuation of brotherhood founded upon our values of characters: Silence, Charity, Purity, Honor and Patriotism. We believe that this not only applies to us as local chapters but to our organization as a whole. The perpetuation of brotherhood through virtual societies is near nonexistent. We find it hard to make any meaningful connections through these societies and strive to reinstate the previous program with restrictions to maintain the health and safety of our members, or to remove the mandatory requirement and fines for lack of attendance with these events.
