SAY NO TO $200 MILLION CN RAIL HUB PROJECT IN MILTON

The Issue

Please take a second to read this & share. It would mean a lot to our family. About six months ago, my partner and I found out that Canadian National rails owns the land that ours, and many other houses are currently sitting on in Milton. When we found out this information, CN rail employees came into our home and took pictures of our entire house (even entering our room and my closet with hardly any warning, and we were only told they would be in our living room.)

We found out that we live on reserved Native land, and that under our house and shed are historical Native buildings and artifacts. We were told that because of this, CN rail could not build on this land. Then recently finding out that they were not "historical enough" to hold up in court.

On January 22nd, 2021 the Federal government approved the CN rail truck hub in Milton, which means that this project will result in the demolition of our home, and many others.

Our house was built in 1877. Ten years after Canada was founded. Our house has had 143 Christmas’, 143 thanksgivings. It has stood here for over 50 thousand days. The tree in our yard is older than anyone in Milton, or Canada, or CN rail.

This project will affect a 1km radius, affecting 12,116 residential units, 12 schools, 2 long term care homes, 1 hospital and nearly 34,000 people.

The project will provide 1,500 jobs during construction, and will provide only 150 jobs when the hub is built. With Milton expanding quickly, and plans for more residential development in this area, this project puts our livelihood at risk. The significant health affects caused by this project are unavoidable.

The hub will be open 24/7 and 1,600 trucks a day will be going to and from the hub down Tremaine everyday, causing unavoidable traffic everywhere in Milton/ Halton/ Burlington, and Oakville. The plans to build the CN hub affect not only my family, but MANY others in the Halton region. We ask that anyone and everyone that is able to, please join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #sayNO2CNhub and tag your Mayor, Councillor, MP and MPP.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

You are appreciated❤️
