Bring Back The YouTube Dislike Count

Bring Back The YouTube Dislike Count
Just recently, YouTube has made the unprecedented decision to privatize all dislikes on their platform. This is a move that has garnered significant criticism and backlash from both YouTube creators and viewers alike. The visibility of dislikes was crucial in deciphering the quality of videos, and there already was an option for creators to disable the like and dislike counts in the first place. This move needlessly punishes creators and viewers who simply wanted to conveniently view feedback to improve their videos and judge the quality of a video themselves. The “to prevent hate raids” excuse that YouTube has persistently made as the reason why dislike counts were removed is completely contradictory and ineffective to the “hate” that YouTube was trying to track down through a simple thumbs down. Negative feedback and toxicity will just end up channeling itself to the comments section. With full keyboard control in the comments section, haters and trolls on the platform will only make hate raids worse as opposed to just disliking a video. In conclusion, I and many others on the YouTube platform firmly believe that YouTube should bring back visible dislike counts on their platform because their tactics to remove them have been ineffective and contradictory to the hate that they intend to stop. On top of this, removing a count inconveniences both viewers and creators. Viewers won’t be able to judge the quality of any video, whereas creators will have to painstakingly open up YouTube studio every 5 seconds just to see how many dislikes their recent video got.
