Google: Don’t roll out Gemini AI for kids—listen to parents first
The Issue
As a parent, I’m deeply concerned about Google’s decision to launch its Gemini AI chatbot for children under 13.
While marketed as a tool for learning and creativity, this rollout is moving too fast—and without enough answers.
Google’s own disclaimer warns that Gemini can still make mistakes or generate inaccurate content. So why are we letting children use it, especially when their critical thinking skills are still developing?
We’ve already seen how unregulated tech tools can affect kids—from mental health to screen addiction to exposure to inappropriate content.
Now, Google is inviting young children to chat with an AI that may not be safe, age-appropriate, or fully understood even by adults.
That’s why I’m calling on Google to pause the rollout of Gemini for kids immediately—until meaningful safeguards, transparency, and parental control measures are in place.
That includes clear data privacy protections, human oversight, and third-party child safety reviews.
Children deserve education, not experimentation.
Parents and experts should be part of this conversation—not sidelined in the rush to launch.
Please sign if you believe Google should listen to families before putting AI in front of kids.
