ROTC. This is just an abbreviation comprising four (4) letters of the alphabet that many of us are not familiar with. Some say it is just a program that wastes the time of the students. Other says people who are engaged in this program experienced a horrible nightmare because of tough training, while others insist it has a good impact on our lives since it teaches us a lot of things. 

In the year 2001, the ROTC program was withdrawn in the Philippines due to hazing issues. The government chose to eliminate it for the sake of the students. Not until President Rodrigo Duterte proposed mandatory ROTC not only for college but also for the senior high school department. We all know that when the president decides, it is all for the integrity of our country. 

Likewise, the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) is entrusted to train and develop college students in the basic principle of Military Service to create capable Armed Forces of the Philippines reservists (De La Salle University, 2018). Army ROTC is one of the Nation's top leadership programs, with a wide span of benefits. According to the Division of Military Education, through Army ROTC you can train to become a leader and manager. ROTC is not just about handling a gun but learning about self-discipline. To build a better personality, and to overcome weaknesses. ROTC can be a way to help the youth away from harmful vices. With the help of ROTC young people are better equipped to remember and demonstrate the values of patriotism and nationalism that were established during the struggle for our country's independence In Army ROTC you will learn to become a leader- not just a person who gives commands, but a person who leads by example. Furthermore, people can also gain experience you can't find anywhere else. The specific skills you receive in ROTC will involve aspects like leadership development, military abilities, and adventure training. Lastly, in ROTC, you will earn the respect of your peers and future employers. 

Now, with this information, let us now end the beliefs that ROTC only gives us negative changes, impacts, and effects. Let us focus on the good side of it and let's bring ourselves together to have a better ROTC program and for us not to repeat what happened in the past. Let us all make a difference, change for the betterment of ROTC
