Address Golf Rival Kingdom Problems

The Issue

Over the last year, the signature competition in Golf Rival, Kingdom, has fallen into a steep decline.  More and more players are refusing to play and even more decide to stop play after reaching superficial goals such as Duke V and King V.  There are a myriad of reasons that compound this issue resulting in further decline:

  • Zero-wind adjustment balls used to be a rare offer but now every couple of weeks, players can stock up on literally hundreds of them.    There is little skill involved in using these balls and skillful players simply don't want to play anymore given the overwhelming majority of matches involve players using these balls.
  • Even for those players that DO persevere through the litany of "zero-ballers" and progress to the highest levels of Kingdom, the rewards are minuscule in comparison with what it takes to get there.  It's not unusual for a player to use hundreds of kangaroo balls only to get a handful in return.  The number of coins returned is meaningless given that the same number can be achieved in a single tournament half a dozen times a month at least.
  • Matching in Kingdom is ludicrous.  If the goal of Kingdom is to rise as far as your skill and clubs allow, why are trophy level (i.e. stages) even a consideration.   Such an artificial restriction limits matching which results in incredibly long matching times - sometimes taking an hour to get a single match at the higher levels.

To address these issues and hopefully halt the decline, we propose the following:

  • We recognize that zero-wind adjustment balls are extremely popular and a substantial revenue producer, but adding a level of skill when using those such as making the needle move slightly faster when wind is reduced would be one way to help level the playing field again.
  • Improve the Kingdom prizes.  Even the legendary cards offered with finishing in King aren't that motivating as most players reaching that level already have the necessary clubs already.   Increase the number of Kingdom balls and 'roos substantially would help.  The prize in coins is way too low.  Increase that SUBSTANTIALLY for each level above Duke V.   Reaching King I should provide a prize of at least 500,000 coins (most players consistently knock out -48 or better in tourneys for 300,000 coins each time).
  • Finally remove ALL trophy matching in Kingdom.  There is no reason for it.  Keep the +/- 3 rank matching (D2 matches down to D5 and up to K4 for instance) but remove trophy matching.  Why should a 92,000 trophy player with a BW7 not be able to match a 12,000 trophy player with BW7?  The better players will always rise and there's a natural ceiling based on club and skill levels anyway, so there is really no reason to use trophies at all in matching.  This is especially true now that the overwhelming majority of players that have started in the last year, use the 'camping' method to build clubs and refuse to advance trophy levels rendering trophies meaningless.

It's not just Kingdom that's a concern; more and more top players are leaving the game because of the issues identified above and we hope that Golf Rival will take the issues identified above seriously.
