I am demanding that Golden Gate Fields Horse Racing in Berkeley, California is closed. It has reopened during the pandemic with no audience, just horse racing. 24 horses have died this year at this place due to their living conditions. Humans bet money so that they can watch this unfair and unreasonable treatment of animals, just so that they have a slight chance at winning money. These people believe that money is more important than the quality of these horses lives, and that is not okay. 

       In an article by “Paulick report” explaining the recent re-opening of Golden Gate Fields, I quote: “Live racing will be conducted under strict protocols and without spectators, to protect the health, safety and welfare of every person and every horse in the Golden Gate Fields community.” They say that they are protecting “the health and safety” of the horses, but having 24 horses die in under a year is not healthy or safe. There are around 1,200 horses stabled, 24 horses have died, just for humans entertainment. These horses live in a stall their whole life, just so that one lucky human can have a few extra bucks in their pocket. Humans are animals too, and we should all be treated equally, no matter what kind.
