Gold for USA, Silver for Canada Figure Skating Ice Dance: Make the IOC Respond.

The Issue

As we see on social media, 90% of people across the world cannot believe their eyes on the scoring of the final Figure Skating couples from February 11, in the Milano Cortina 2026 winter olympics. Figure skaters, coaches. casual watchers all agreed America and Canada were far more flawless than France. Not from bias of the abuse and sexual assault scandal from France, but the clear discrepancy in the scoring of their skating and technicality skills. As France were tight and out of sync for most important sequences, including Cizeron who exited the twizzle too early and almost fell, resulting in a completely out of sync and disjointed serpentine sequence.

A specific 4 judges had clear discrepancy in scoring, with a farther range between USA/Canada and France. 5 gold medal scores awarded to USA, yet 4 for France and they won gold. France has already been the topic of controversy in previous olympics with biased scoring. The countries that severely inflated France's scores also underscored America and Canada. America, Finland, Georgia, China and Italy awarded America with gold scores and kept the scoring range within close range for Canada. Yet, France, Spain, Canada and Czech awarded France with gold scores and a much bigger range between scoring of America and Canada. This was already controversial as France had 3 judges previously underscoring America before - something commented and brought to attention before the final figure skating routine. Even French citizens protested the pairing of Cizeron and Beaudry, complaining their skill and routine was not good enough. They failed the twizzle in previous performances and practice. 134.88, 130.97, 137.67, 135.75 and 136.95 were gold scores awarded to USA. Silver scores of 135.43, 135.47, 129.74 and 132.75 bronze from Spain were awarded from the other judges. The judges that gave France gold had a severe scoring discrepancy in over inflating France: 7 to 8 point difference.

As we see unfortunately in today's political climate, I worry that Spain and Canada's judges were biased and this is obvious through their range discrepancy. This is despicable to the sport, the skaters, and the enjoyers when we see a routine full of mistake win gold; while the other two lower on the podium performed a near flawless routine. Is this the message we want to send to young skaters and dreamers? Chock/Bates and Gilles/Poirier clearly outperformed and scored better than France. Yet, we saw the discrepancy blatantly ignored, shocking announcers from all countries and many questioning the prejudice. Make this right.
