Gold Card Visa? Demand Equal Processing Speed for All Immigrants, Not Just the Rich
The Issue
The Trump administration just launched a new “Gold Card” visa — allowing wealthy individuals to pay $1 million to fast-track U.S. residency, often within just a few weeks.
Meanwhile, immigrant families applying through legal channels can wait years — even decades — to reunite with loved ones or secure work authorization.
This is not just a policy shift. It’s a declaration that immigration in America is no longer based on merit, need, or fairness — but on how much money you have.
The Gold Card program sidesteps existing immigration pathways like the EB-5 visa by removing job creation requirements and letting corporations purchase and transfer visas between workers. It opens a privileged lane for the ultra-rich while millions of everyday immigrants — spouses, students, asylum seekers, essential workers — remain stuck in bureaucratic limbo.
Fast-tracking the rich while slow-walking everyone else isn’t efficient — it’s unjust. And it risks sending the message that the U.S. values wealth more than contribution, community, or family.
We call on the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and Congress to reject this two-tier immigration system.
The government must:
- Prioritize reducing backlogs for family reunification, humanitarian, and employment visas
- Make processing time improvements available to all applicants, not just the wealthy
- Prohibit policies that give “donation-based” visas a privileged timeline
- Everyone deserves a fair and timely immigration process — not just those with a million dollars to spare.
Add your name if you believe dignity, fairness, and equality should guide our immigration system — not price tags.
