GoFundMe provides a platform for community fundraising with no consideration to community safety. There are no anti-oppression guidelines or oversight which results in fundraisers everyday for those who are accused of murder, of racism and of sexual abuse. 

Instead of providing a platform to support the community, by having no checks and balances, GoFundMe is raising funds to promote hate in communities around the world. 

There are 2 recent campaigns we would like to bring attention to use as examples. One is a highly publicised one with the recent murder of Ahmaud Arbery who was brutally murdered by racist men in Brunswick, Georgia in the US. There have been multiple campaigns started to raise funds for these murderers. By allowing this, GoFund me is supporting racism and gun violence. There are several other fundraisers for similar incidents.

The other is a lesser known fundraiser for a man who is accused of sexually abusing several women across the world and the campaign is to raise money for him to sue these already traumatised women. This is supporting misogyny and sexual violence and this is repeated several times in GoFundMe’s archives.

Here are what we demand from GoFundMe:

1. Create an advisory committee with experts on anti-oppression to overlook the creation of new campaigns to ensure that it is not oppressive to any marginalized community in our society. It must ensure its campaigns are against racism, misogyny, sexual and domestic violence, gun violence and white supremacy culture. 

2. Remove and shutdown ongoing oppressive fundraisers and refund this money to those who donated.

3. Blacklist those who start these fundraisers from creating any new fundraisers in the future.
