Petition For GoFundMe to Disallow Racists to Raise Money
The Issue
We need to hold GoFundMe Fundraising accountable for ensuring they aren’t allowing racists to use their platform to get rich, by BEING RACIST!
We are using their OWN words about racial equality to do this!
GoFundMe ardently stands for EQUALITY, therefore they should not be allowing those who DO NOT, to petition fellow racists to donate as a means of perpetuating their racism through frivolous lawsuits and supplemental income.
There is currently a woman from Kentucky attempting to raise $10,000 in order to sue her employer for firing her, because she went against THEIR social media and anti-discrimination policies by posting two racist rants on Facebook.
GoFundMe allowed this fundraiser to continue. Several complaints have been filed through their available channels under “posting misleading statements in the fundraiser description”, and we are awaiting PERMANENT action to block and end this fundraiser—along with keeping ones like it from EVER happening again. As of now, the fundraiser has been removed, but it could very well return if an appeals process is honored.
GoFundMe needs to carefully vet these fundraisers before making them public, and before allowing the beneficiaries the ability to collect the monies PRIOR TO reaching their goal.
Fundraising organizations such as this should not be complicit in bankrolling individuals actively participating in systemic and institutional racism.
