Godzilla vs Kong: Origins | Give us the classic Blue Nuclear Pulse and Red Spiral Ray
The Issue
The Monsterverse is nearing its 10 year mark, and with it, for the Godzilla franchise’s 70th anniversary along with the Monsterverse’s 10 year anniversary, we will be receiving a new Godzilla and Kong movie, currently under the working title of “Origins”, releasing on March 15th, 2024. With that being said, a recent plot synopsis for the film has been published and says the following.
“This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging
their very existence - and our own.”
With this new information released, we can gathered Godzilla and Kong will be teaming up against a massive threat, likely greater than we’ve seen before in any of the Monsterverse movies.
With all the puzzle pieces placed together, as this being likely the strongest enemy to date, the 70th anniversary of Godzilla, and the 10th anniversary of this cinematic universe and iteration of the character, this seems like a fitting time more than ever to finally present on the big screen in high budget glory two of Godzilla’s most iconic attacks. His blue nuclear pulse and his red spiral heat ray.
The blue nuclear pulse may seem unneeded, as we’ve already seen a nuclear pulse on the big screen before in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters”. However, this nuclear pulse required Godzilla to become extremely amped up and achieve a new form just to pull off. This is now a good opportunity to show off the base Godzilla doing one of his most iconic attacks, that was used quite frequently in the Heisei era, on one of his strongest opponents yet. The blue nuclear pulse has always stood out and made for some of the most iconic shots in the Heisei era of the franchise, and could make for some amazing action sequences in this film for Godzilla to release this move on his opponent giving everything he has.
The red spiral ray is not just any standard nuclear pulse or atomic breath, it’s used as a death blow throughout nearly all the franchise. The moment the beam goes red, you know the battle is over in most scenarios. With the attack first being used to kill Super Mechagodzilla in 1993, then Spacegodzilla in 1994, and many times after in massive final blow attacks to win the day, it would seem fitting for it to finally make its Monsterverse debut here. It’s an attack fans have been wanting to see in the Monsterverse for years, with many disappointed that the Monsterverse incarnation of “Burning Godzilla” didn’t use it in 2019. Now would be the perfect time to bring the move out. As stated above with this movie being a massive anniversary movie for the franchise, it would be a fitting way for Godzilla to defeat what will likely be his strongest opponent in this universe yet. And would make for a very satisfying conclusion to the war that we will likely see in this film.
My hope is that Adam Wingard sees this and not only considers, but goes through with using these two iconic and massive attacks in this film. Making for a very fitting 70th anniversary franchise film.
