Although it is nearly extinct in the US, child labor is still a rampant problem in many other parts of the world. Many big chocolate companies are disregarding their use of child labor in this back-breaking cocoa production. According to greenamerica.org, Godiva has committed to "100% sustainable chocolate by 2020," but has not shared any progress, nor has any certification for labor or the chocolate itself. Godiva is the only F on the scorecard, and has no labor certification, no update on the percentage of how much of their cocoa is currently certified, and has taken no other initiatives to go beyond certification.

What I want to do is boycott Godiva chocolate to help change their policy about child labor and deforestation. On the chocolate scorecard, there are many more chocolate companies that have a much better rating and certification. Instead of buying a Godiva product, I believe we should start buying our chocolate from companies who care about the impact their business is leaving. There are many more companies that we could choose to get our chocolate from, and that we should, because they don't use child labor, and have made efforts against deforestation.
