Gluten free McDonalds in AUS

Gluten free McDonalds in AUS
The issue
In 2020 I was diagnosed with Coeliac disease. Never would I have thought I would have an intolerance to anything, so adjusting to this new lifestyle whilst easy compared to others, is still challenging at times. Not just physically but mentally as well. Always feeling like a burden, not being invited around as much, anxiety, stress over whether we should double check or if we are annoying! McDonald’s was such an easy option when out and about and it was my favourite outlet. Whilst we can get some burgers just without the bun, it isn’t the same and extra challenging. These days it’s really not that hard to source these buns! So unsure why this hasn’t been implemented already here, in the largest fast food chain in the world.
All across Europe you can purchase McDonald’s burgers with a gluten free bun, but not in AUSTRALIA! Despite the growing number of Coeliacs or those choosing to loose wheat for health reasons this is STILL not an option. Why should we take our own bun and pay the same price as those with a bun? We want the bun!
We feel the time has come where McDonald’s should consider our needs and provide the solution. Gluten free buns are available in McDonald’s in the following countries/regions: Andorra, Austria, The Canary Islands, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Gibraltar, Hungary, Ibiza, Italy, Majorca and Menorca, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland… if they can do it over there, surely they can do it here in Australia!
McDonald’s have recently made room for the new McPlant burger and other vegan offerings. Whilst this is a great step forward for vegans, having a medical condition such as Coeliac Disease is not a dietary choice. Things are not going to change with regard to dietary requirements, McDonald’s, surely it’s time you caught up and became fully inclusive?
Support from anyone is much appreciated, whether this affects you directly or you just care about other people. I’m sure you all know a friend or family member who has to or chooses to avoid gluten. Psychologically it’s so damaging to feel left out or like you are being ‘awkward/picky’… try living in a Coeliac’s shoes for a few weeks and see how difficult it can be… eating out with friends, gatherings where everyone is provided for apart from you, is horrendous! Just going to McDonald’s or another eatery with family or friends and eating like they do would be pure bliss.
Thank you.
