A better future without plastics

The Issue

Plastics are one of the most serious environmental dares our oceans face. It distresses marine organisms, habitats and ecosystems, as well as the health and well-being of people, predominantly those dependent on the oceans. Smaller plastic particles are especially dangerous, because they are easily swallowed and can move in organs and body fluids of organisms and so spread up the food chain. The datum that these particles are also co-contaminated with numerous chemicals and other pollutants makes precise calculations of the effects and toxicity of plastic pollution perplexing.

We need to:

  • Give up plastic bags. Take your own reusable bags to the store.
  • Skip straws. Unless you have medical needs, and even then you could use paper ones.
  • Shun plastic bottles, Invest in a refillable water bottle.
  • Avoid plastic packaging. Purchase bar soap instead of liquid.
  • Salvage what you can and don't litter.
  • Spread the word and support organizations addressing plastic pollution.

I really care because plastics are often indecorously discarded, end up in our drainage systems and eventually in our oceans. From my observation plastic pollution have increased due to COVID-19 measures, where restaurants operate with people buying food through the drive thru system and not sitting to eat because of fear of contracting the virus and also delivery services often use plastic bags for their packaging, these bags are mostly improperly disposed and contribute to the pollution in our ocean. They release toxic chemicals into the water, trap and kill marine creatures, pollute beautiful beaches and eventually end up harming plants, animals and human beings.
