Kristie Keith-Hall started this petition to Mayor Mattias Schroeter and

Eastern Concrete Materials Inc. (Glen Gardner Quarry) seeks to temporarily accept and store aggregate material as it relates to a State highway improvement project to mitigate rockfall along a portion of Route 78 located in Hunterdon County. Additionally, the quarry seeks to amend its prior approval to remove the proposed construction of a new scale house and additional scale and instead proposes minor re-grading, paving of two parking spaces located near the existing scalehouse, and paving the entrance to the Property.

The Glen Gardner Planning Board must approve a variance in order for Eastern Concrete Materials to import unknown roadwork material.  In 2017, the quarry discharged stone dust sludge into the Spruce Run which is a drinking and recreational source of water.  That accident had significant impact on the local habitat but, as bad as it was, the pollution was limited to the local stone dust and not from unknown material from roadwork brought in from outside our town.

Citizens of Glen Gardner and Bethlehem already experience significant noise, dust and traffic from the quarry operations that take place within their current property on Railroad Avenue.  This petition is to ask our Planning Board to deny this variance request and leave the existing and customary use of land as it is and not allow imported material to be brought in and processed within our borough.
