North Babylon family, your help and understanding is needed at this time. Robert Moses Middle School is named after a racist, vindictive individual who lacked principals. To those that didn't know, he was instrumental in urban development in the United States. More locally though, he was known as the "master builder" of Long Island. He believed that if he constructed overpasses that were too low for public transportation to pass under, he could stop the migration of poor minorities to Long Island thus creating a RICH WHITES ONLY Island. He vocally opposed allowing black war veterans access to more affluent neighborhoods and attempted to restrict minorities from visiting neighborhood pools by making water too cold. 

The mission of the middle school states that it wishes to "develop ethical standards for behavior, take personal responsibility for their actions and success and inculcate a lifelong love for learning and personal growth" My questions is, What is ethical about Robert Moses?" 

All in all, this isn't a man whose name children should recite everyday heading to school. This isn't a man they should learn about and praise. He should be condemned for his actions and the best way to do that now is to remove his name from the middle school. I propose his names immediate removal with an opportunity to later discuss renaming it.
