Five Citizen’s Advice Bureaux within the City of Glasgow will be forced to close if Glasgow City Council stops vital core service funding from September 2020.

The Bureaus at Castlemilk, Easterhouse, Parkhead, Bridgeton, and Glasgow Central have all received notice that their funding will be cut, and as a result, they will be forced to close their doors and services.

This will leave only three Bureaux to service the entire city, but with their own funding slashed by GCC and already spiraling caseloads. Since the onset of the COVID19 pandemic, all our city's Citizen’s Advice Bureaus are already struggling to cope with the demand as families have faced job losses, illness, and debt as a result of the ongoing crisis.

These funding cuts will mean bureaux will be left struggling with their existing caseloads as well as rising demand from areas that have lost their own CAB; impacting the ability of the remaining bureaux to provide and assistance to service users in need.

It will also leave Glasgow's East End with no Citizens Advice Office at all.

Citizen’s Advice Bureaux and the services they provide are a vital, lifeline service to our communities. If they disappear it will leave many of our most vulnerable in the city’s deprived areas without access to vital independent, impartial advice on matters such as debt management and welfare benefits, housing, domestic abuse, immigration and asylum, employment issues & tribunals, consumer complaints, and landlord-tenant disputes to name a few.

The decision to cut funding to CAB in Glasgow will devastate our city’s poorest and most vulnerable. Especially the disabled, women, and those living in the most deprived areas in Scotland; leaving them in a time of unprecedented economic turmoil and uncertainty without access to support and advice when they need it most and piling pressure on the remaining services.

The Citizen’s Advice Bureau is an absolute necessity to help thousands of individuals and families across Glasgow and the rest of Scotland, Glasgow City Council must reinstate funding to all the bureaus within the city as a matter of urgency.

EDIT: You do not need to donate money to support this petition, has an advert that appears after signing asking you to chip in but this money does not go to Citizens Advice Bureau!  Get in touch with your local Bureau and help them directly with fundraising.
