GIVE YOUR VOICE TO WHY GYMS SHOULD BE ESSENTIAL
The Issue
Sitting at the front desk of a gym provides invaluable feedback that unfortunately only few get to hear. It's time for gym members to have their voices heard on why going to the gym is important to them. Our business & industry continues because of our amazing members. The feedback, heard today from our members on the sudden closure of our gyms in Manitoba beginning Nov 12/20, all resonated with our passion on why providing this service SHOULD BE ESSENTIAL.
Our hope is for YOU to share with the public those same comments you made today on how you need the gym for stress relief, for anxiety and depression, to create a strong mind & body that is able to cope with situations better, a social interaction, to build immunity, to maintain recovery from injury, to continue progress on achieving more mobility....
All members from age 12 to 80 use our facility. It is our passion to help others and provide a safe space where everyone of all ages can find time for themselves and leave feeling recharged and positive. We want to break the stigma the gym is only a place to achieve a fit body but instead raise awareness for mental health, the importance of balanced healthy living and the benefits of being consistently active in a daily workout resulting in feeling both mentally & physically strong.
Our mission started years ago when we began the RHF Cross Canada Challenge to bring awareness to mental health and all the benefits that being active provides. (#RHFCrossCanadaChallenge) https://www.ramsayhealthandfitness.com/events/cross-canada-challenge
Many medical & fitness experts agree that gyms are crucial to fight COVID-19. Our physical, mental & emotional damage from the pandemic is increasing nationwide. We have to weigh the risk of COVID-19 infection with the risks associated with social isolation, decreased physical activity, and loss of function. COVID-19 pandemic, stress, fear, and isolation have severely impacted people’s physical and mental health globally.
Experts are pushing data and facts to keep gyms open as part of a solution to fight the negative effects brought on by the virus, lockdowns, and isolation.
Physical activity is extremely essential to both MENTAL and PHYSICAL health.
Fitness plays a critical role in combatting the virus and improving people’s overall physical and mental health.
There is an abundance of literature supporting the benefit of regular exercise in the management of depression, anxiety, and even cognitive decline.
Most people may think that exercise is good -- But if they knew how effective exercise is at preventing, treating, and reversing diseases —such as diabetes and heart disease, even improving cancer survival outcomes—we in the industry may be in a position to gain more support from public officials.
Persistent activity allows people to:
● remain physically independent
● stay connected socially
● improve overall vitality
● strengthen immune function
Physical activity improves:
● symptoms of anxiety and depression
● stress levels
● sleep
● mood
● focus and attention
● the ability to stay sober—in some cases
If you could put exercise in a pill, it would have the effects of at least 14 different types of medications we prescribe for multiple ailments.
Less movement, even just within a few months shows a significant increase in debility and decline in overall health.
At Ramsay Health & Fitness the safety and well-being of members, staff, and the community remain our top priority.
We thank you for your continued support & commitment since re-opening to following the guidelines & restrictions to do your part in keeping our facilities safe.
We will open as soon as we are able to! Hopefully with your help we can bring light to this need and do our part to raise much needed awareness.
