The Issue

To the Xbox Design Team, Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, and the leadership at Microsoft Gaming:

For over two decades, Xbox has stood at the cutting edge of digital entertainment. Yet, as the platform has grown, millions of long-time fans find themselves missing the golden era of console gaming—specifically, the unparalleled personality, aesthetic, and functional magic of the Xbox 360 User Interface. Whether it was the innovative sliding panels of the 2005 'Blades' dashboard or the deeply immersive 2008 'New Xbox Experience' (NXE) menu, those interfaces felt like spaces created specifically for gamers.

Modern console operating systems have evolved into flat, service-heavy layouts focused on advertisement delivery and streaming video placement. While highly functional, these modern interfaces have stripped away the tactile 'tech-optimism' and vibrant community feel that defined our childhood memories. The recent massive community praise and viral adoption of the limited Xbox 360 Blades Dynamic Background proved one thing conclusively: nostalgia for this era isn't a passing trend; it is a permanent consumer demand.

We, the undersigned community of gamers, developers, and platform loyalists, are officially requesting that Microsoft develop an optional, fully functional 'Legacy UI Mode' for Xbox Series X|S and modern Xbox console baselines. We are not asking for a complete removal of modern features, but rather a cosmetic and structural alternative layout that mimics the flow, geometry, sounds, and charm of the classic Xbox 360 dashboard system.

Why This Project Makes Business Sense for Xbox:

• Unprecedented Brand Loyalty: Bringing back a legacy layout as a togglable feature would generate immense positive industry public relations, showing that Xbox listens to its community more than any other platform holder.
• Increased Engagement with Retro Catalogs: A dedicated legacy hub natively drives traffic directly toward backward-compatible original Xbox and Xbox 360 game libraries, directly boosting digital software sales.
• Hardware Synergy: An interface that celebrates heritage perfectly complements special edition hardware, transparent controllers, and physical retro anniversary apparel lines.
We urge the developers at Team Xbox to harness the power of the Fluent Design System to build a safe, secure, and modern reconstruction of our favorite classic layouts. Give us the option to choose how we experience our home consoles. Let us bring back the magic of the 360 era.
